CGWA NOC for groundwater: steps and timeline

What happens between deciding you need a NOC and receiving it, and how long each part takes.

Industries, mines and infrastructure projects that draw groundwater, or dewater, need a No Objection Certificate. It is issued by CGWA, or by the state authority in states that regulate groundwater themselves.

1. Scope

We confirm the authority, the category of the assessment unit, the area type and the planned abstraction or dewatering. This decides the type of report and whether modelling is needed.

2. Field data

Well inventory and water levels within the study area, pumping tests, ERT or VES surveys where the geology needs it, and water samples.

3. Report

An Impact Assessment Report for industry and infrastructure, or a Comprehensive Hydrogeological Report for mines, with analytical or numerical modelling where para 8 requires it, and a recharge and mitigation plan.

4. Application and queries

The application is filed online with the report. We reply to queries from the authority until the NOC is issued.

5. Compliance

NOC conditions typically include flow meters, piezometers with water level monitoring, recharge or water conservation measures, water audits and periodic compliance reports.

How long it takes

Report preparation usually takes 45–60 days from site data to final report. Processing time at the authority is in addition and varies.
